Press Conference by the Chairman of the Group of 77 on:
The outcome of Climate Change conference (Kyoto Protocol)

UNITED NATIONS (13 November, 2001) - The Chairman of the Group of Seventy-Seven (G-77), Ambassador Bagher Asadi (Islamic Republic of Iran), will hold a press conference this Thursday, 14 November 2001, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The press conference will be held in the press briefing room 226 of the United Nations Secretariat building at 11:00 a.m. The Chairman will talk about the ongoing outcome of the Seventh Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP-7) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Marrakech (Morocco).

The G-77 is the largest coalition of developing nations in the world. The Group was founded on 15 June 1964, by seventy-seven developing countries at the first session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The Group has since grown to 133 nations, representing almost the entire developing world, including China. Over the past nearly four decades, the G-77's role and influence have expanded as seen most recently at last year's South Summit.

G-77 Will Hold Press Conference on Kyoto Protocol & IFCC-X; G-77 Chairman to Address Outcome of Negotiations in Bonn, Germany

UNITED NATIONS (1 August, 2001) - Ambassador Bagher Asadi (Islamic Republic of Iran), Chairman of the Group of Seventy-Seven (G-77), will hold a press conference regarding the new agreement on the Kyoto Protocol and the upcoming conference of developing nations, on Thursday, 2 August 2001, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The press conference will address the position of the G-77 on the outcome of negotiations on the Kyoto Protocol in Bonn (Germany) and the ongoing preparations for the upcoming conference of developing nations in Iran, IFCC-X.

The press conference will be held 2 August, 2001 at 11AM in the United Nations Secretariat building, in the press briefing room 226.

Chairman Marks Anniversary of the G-77; Announces Developing Nations Conference
High Level Conference Will be Held in Tehran From 18-23 August, 2001

UNITED NATIONS (13 June, 2001) - The Chairman of the Group of Seventy-Seven (G-77), Ambassador Bagher Asadi (Islamic Republic of Iran), will mark the commemoration of the 37th anniversary of the establishment of the Group of 77 with a press conference to be held this Friday at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The press conference will be held Friday 15 June, 2001, in the press briefing room 226 of the United Nations Secretariat building at 11AM. The Chairman will talk about the accomplishments of the G-77 over the past thirty-seven years, as well touch on the future of the G-77, including the announcement of a major conference on South-South cooperation to be held in Tehran, from the 18th through the 23rd of August, 2001.

Building on the work of the South Summit, the G-77 will hold the tenth session of the Intergovernmental Follow-up and Coordination Committee (IFCC-X) in Tehran from the 18th through the 23rd of August. This high level conference will focus on building greater economic cooperation among developing countries. The Chairman will provide more background on the IFCC-X at Friday's press conference. G-77 Countries Prepare to Converge on Tehran
Press Centre to be Set up to Facilitate Media Coverage of the IFCC Conference

UNITED NATIONS (18 July, 2001) - Preparations are underway by the Group of Seventy-Seven (G-77) at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York and at G-77 chapters at various UN centres around the world for the IFCC-X in Tehran, the first major conference of developing countries since last year's G-77 South Summit held in Havana, Cuba. A spokesman for the Office of the Chairman announced that an international press centre would be set up at the Iranian Center for International Conferences (ICIC) for the IFCC-X conference.

The G-77/IFCC Secretariat in New York and the Iranian government are working closely to facilitate the process of covering the conference in Tehran. The G-77 released a media accreditation form which is available from the Office of the Chairman in New York and the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations. This form should be completed by all members of the media who will be traveling to Tehran for the purpose of covering the conference. Besides the daily press briefings and press conferences by other delegations, the spokesman announced that Ambassador Bagher Asadi (Islamic Republic of Iran), Chairman of the G-77, will be available for a limited number of one-on-one interviews prior to and during the conference. Journalists interested in scheduling an interview should accordingly contact the Office of the Chairman as soon as possible.

Ministers and high-level officials from the developing countries will meet in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran from 18 to 23 August 2001 for the Intergovernmental Follow-up & Coordination Committee on Economic Cooperation Among Developing Countries. The conference will develop new mechanisms for economic and technical cooperation among developing countries. The IFCC-X conference is being sponsored by the G-77, the world's largest organization of developing countries.
An International Press Centre for media coverage will be set up at the ICIC in Tehran. The Centre equipped with telephone lines, fax machines, internet access, and outlets for computers and other electronic equipment.
