STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE GROUP OF 77 AND CHINA BY MR. ANDRč ODENBREIT, DELEGATE OF BRAZIL, AT THE SECOND MEETING (RESUMED) OF THE CONFERENCE OF THE PARTIES TO THE UN FRAMEWORK CONVENTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE AT ITS FIFTEENTH SESSION (Copenhagen, Brazil, 8 December 2009)

Madam President,

Again, we would like to indicate our thanks to the Chair of the AWG-LCA for his efforts in presenting this text. We feel that the text is a text which we are willing to work on. We think that we can advance.

There are issues that need to be addressed of course. One example that the G77 would like to emphasize is the treatment in the text of adaptation which has to be built up in order to be able to fully and adequately address this critical issue.

We do believe that the text has at its basis a critical important issue for the G77 which is its acceptance and structure which reflects the continuity of the Kyoto Protocol. This is a critical point of the G77 and it is something that we believe to be essential to the outcome that we are all looking for. This is the Copenhagen outcome which the G77 contemplates. We do not contemplate it in a context where this continuity is not ensured.

We would also like to point out that we believe that the text is important in directing our work in a way that achieves progress in the very limited time that we have, and we are looking for these results here in Copenhagen.

Thank you.
