STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE GROUP OF 77 AND CHINA BY MS. BERNARDITAS DE CASTRO-MULLER, DELEGATE OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE SUDAN, AT THE FIFTH MEETING OF THE FIFTEENTH SESSION OF THE CONFERENCE OF THE PARTIES TO THE UN FRAMEWORK CONVENTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE (Copenhagen, Denmark, 17 Deceber 2009)

Mr. President,

Speaking on behalf of the Chair of the Group of 77 and China, we would like to have clarity on the deadline. What do you mean by a short deadline?

I would like to make on this point an observation that we have lost at least two precious days of negotiations on this text because of the lack of clarity on the process. It is not the fault of G77 and China. We were ready to work and, therefore, the consideration of the deadline must take into account the fact that we have lost some days of negotiations because we had to deal with the lack of clarity in the process.

Mr. President, I hope you take that into account and we would like to have clarity on these deadlines which cannot be very short and it should allow us to work and help assist the presidency to come to a successful outcome at Copenhagen, which is the desire of the Group of 77 and China.

I thank you.
