STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE GROUP OF 77 AND CHINA BY MR. LARBI DJACTA, PERMANENT MISSION OF ALGERIA TO THE UNITED NATIONS, BEFORE THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE UNITED NATIONS INTRODUCING DRAFT RESOLUTION ON NEW PARTNERSHIP FOR AFRICA'S DEVELOPMENT (New York, 23 July 2012) |
Mr. President,
1- I have the honour to introduce, on behalf of the Group of 77 and China, the draft resolution on the "New Partnership for Africa's Development: progress in implementation and international support: draft resolution (A/66/L.40/Rev.1) under Agenda item 63 (a).
2- The G77 and China would like to express its appreciation to all delegations for their constructive deliberations and contribution to this draft resolution. Our particular appreciations are extended to the facilitator Mr. Modest Mero from Tanzania for his remarkable work, and the coordinator Mr. Hussein Al Shaar from Egypt for his tremendous effort and commitment on behalf of the G77 and China.
3- I further would like to highlight that the resolution reaffirms the support of the entire UN membership for the implementation of NEPAD, and recognizes the progress in its implementation.
4- This draft also stresses the need to implement all commitments by the international community to Africa's development, and the need to continue to support the special needs of Africa to mitigate the impacts of the world economic and financial crisis on the continent.
5- The draft resolution emphasizes the need to enhance the voice and participation of developing countries, including African countries, in the international economic decision-making and norm setting, and the need to avoid further marginalization of the continent in this regard
6- The G77 and China hopes that this draft resolution will be adopted by acclamation during this session.
