Excellencies Co-facilitators,
Distinguished delegates,

I have the honour to deliver this statement on behalf of the Group of 77 and China.

At the outset please allow me, Distinguish Co-facilitators, to express my appreciation on behalf of the Group for convening this very important briefing on the forthcoming Preparatory Meeting of the United Nations Conference to support the implementation of sustainable development Goal 14. This Preparatory Meeting will represent an important milestone on the path towards the full achievement of the Conference to be held in June 2017.

The Group would like to also thank the Co-facilitators for introducing the Secretary-General's background note as well as the tentative programme of work for the Preparatory Meeting.

Distinguish Co-facilitators,

The Group of 77 and China is fully committed with this process, taking into account the importance that oceans represent for sustainable development. The Group looks forward to constructively engaging in the discussions with a view to considering the themes for the partnership dialogues and elements for a "Call for Action" in the next Preparatory Meeting.

Distinguish Co-facilitators, you can rest assured of the Group's full support in this process.

Tengo la honra de pronunciar esta intervención en nombre del Grupo de los 77 y China.

En primer lugar permítame expresar mi agradecimiento, en nombre del Grupo, por haber convocado a esta importante reunión informativa sobre la próxima Reunión Preparatoria de la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas para apoyar la consecución del Objetivo de Desarrollo Sostenible 14. Dicha Reunión Preparatoria representará un hito importante en el camino hacia el éxito de la Conferencia a celebrarse en junio de 2017.

El Grupo desea también agradecer a los Co-facilitadores por presentar la nota de antecedentes del Secretario General con los temas propuestos para la Reunión Preparatoria, así como el programa provisional de trabajo.

El Grupo de los 77 y China está plenamente comprometido con este proceso, tomando en cuenta la importancia que los océanos representan para el desarrollo sostenible. El Grupo espera con entusiasmo participar constructivamente en las discusiones con miras a examinar los temas de los diálogos sobre las alianzas y los elementos para un "Llamamiento a la Acción" en la próxima Reunión Preparatoria.

Distinguidos Co-facilitadores, pueden estar seguros del total apoyo del Grupo en este proceso.
