<p>Mr. Chair,</p>

<p>I have the honour to deliver this statement on behalf of the Group of 77 and China.</p>

<p>I would like to express the Group's appreciation for the efforts and hard work made in the preparation of the Chair's Indicative Suggestions, to assist our work in developing recommendations, and for having circulated the document in a timely manner before the Preparatory Committee; it was of great help for us to prepare in advance for this meeting and to enable us to work effectively during the intersessional period.</p>

<p>The Group of 77 and China is pleased to see that a number of its recommendations had been reflected in the Chair's Indicative Suggestions. We look forward to working with you and fellow delegates to strengthen the areas of convergence in the document. We are of the view that the Chair's indicative suggestions provide a good basis for us to continue our deliberations during this meeting and the Group hopes that our constructive suggestions will be taken on board.</p>

<p>The Group of 77 and China is confident that by the end of the 4th and final session of the Preparatory Committee, we will fulfill the mandate in resolution 69/292; by making the substantive recommendations to the General Assembly on the elements of a draft text of an international legally binding instrument under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea; and that, by taking into account the report of the Preparatory Committee, the General Assembly will decide on the convening and on the starting date of an intergovernmental conference before the end of its seventy-second session. The Group of 77 and China anticipates that this decision will be made as soon as possible.</p>

<p>The Group of 77 and China would like to reiterate its confidence in your able leadership and guidance in conducting this PrepCom. We would like to assure you our full support and disposition to constructively engage in productive discussions in order to successfully conclude with our work.</p>

<p>Tengo el honor de pronunciar esta declaración en nombre del Grupo de los 77 más China.</p>

<p>Nuestro agradecimiento por su esfuerzo y por el arduo trabajo que usted ha realizado para la preparación del Documento de Sugerencias Indicativas. También por haberlo circulado de manera oportuna antes del inicio de esta reunión del Comité Preparatorio. El documento fue de gran ayuda para prepararnos para esta reunión, y para permitirnos trabajar eficazmente durante el período entre sesiones.</p>

<p>El Grupo de los 77 más China está complacido de ver que la mayor parte sus recomendaciones han sido reflejadas en el Documento de Sugerencias Indicativas. Esperamos con interés poder trabajar con usted y con nuestros colegas delegados para fortalecer las áreas de convergencia del documento. Somos de la opinión de que el Documento de Sugerencias Indicativas es una buena base para continuar con nuestras deliberaciones durante esta reunión y confiamos que nuestras recomendaciones serán tomadas en cuenta.</p>

<p>El Grupo de los 77 más China confía en que para el final de esta Cuarta y última sesión del Comité Preparatorio cumpliremos el mandato de la resolución 69/292; formulando recomendaciones sustantivas a la Asamblea General sobre los elementos de un proyecto de texto de un instrumento internacional jurídicamente vinculante en el marco de la Convención; y que, teniendo en cuenta el informe del Comité Preparatorio, la Asamblea General adoptará una decisión sobre la convocación y la fecha de inicio de una conferencia intergubernamental antes de que concluya su septuagésimo segundo período de sesiones. El Grupo de los 77 más China espera que esta decisión sea tomada lo antes posible.</p>

<p>El Grupo de los 77 más China desea reiterar nuestra confianza en su liderazgo y orientación en la conducción de este Comité Preparatorio. Queremos asegurarle nuestro pleno apoyo y disposición para participar constructivamente en las discusiones a fin de concluir exitosamente con nuestro trabajo.</p>
