Madam Chair,

1. I have the honor to deliver this statement on behalf of the Group of 77 and China on the organization of work of the second part of the resumed 79th session of the Fifth Committee.

2. The Group extends its deep appreciation to you, Madam Chair, for your continued leadership in guiding the work of the Fifth Committee. We extend also our gratitude to the Bureau members and the Secretariat of the Committee for preparing the draft Programme of Work and the preparation of documentation for this session.

3. The Group acknowledge also the valuable contribution of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions (ACABQ) in supporting the Committee's deliberations.

4. We trust that the timely submission of reports by the Secretariat and the ACABQ enabling the Committee to undertake and complete its work, remains crucial for effectively carrying out the work of this Committee within the time allocated.

Madam Chair,

5. As the second resumed session is primarily dedicated to the consideration of the budgets of the peacekeeping operations, the Group would like to reiterate our gratitude to the men and women, both in uniform and civilian, who continue to serve in the various peacekeeping missions of the United Nations. We pay special tribute for their unwavering dedication and the sacrifice of their lives in the pursuit of peace.

Madam Chair,

6. Our Group is committed to a thorough consideration of agenda items allocated to this Committee, including the item deferred from the resumed session on improving the financial situation of the UN that merits serious attention to ensure smooth functioning of the UN and effective delivery of mandates. On the peacekeeping matters, our Group attaches great importance to the consideration of administrative and budgetary aspects of the financing of UN peacekeeping operations, in particular, cross-cutting issues, closed peacekeeping missions, the Support Account for peacekeeping operations, and the budgets of the Regional Service Centre and the United Nations Logistics Base.

Madam Chair,

7. These multifaceted items demand our close attention, with the substantial number of reports and heavy workload that the Committee will face in the coming weeks. In this regard, the Group emphasizes that realistic and proportional time must be allotted that would enable us to meaningfully consider and conclude agenda items.

8. In this regard, the Group would like to assure you our readiness to engage constructively with you and all members of the Committee in a positive and constructive manner during deliberations to ensure that the Fifth Committee successfully concludes its work in a timely fashion.

 Thank you!
