Submitter: Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), based in Irbid, Jordan.
Subcontractor: Same as above.
Priority area: Health.
Participating/beneficiary countries: 6 countries (Afghanistan, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia and Türkiye).
PGTF input: US$32,000.
Other inputs: US$32,000.
Number: INT/19/K14.
Duration: Twelve (12) months.
Approval: 42nd Annual Ministerial Meeting of the Group of 77 (New York, 27 September 2018).
Completion: Final report submitted on 27 May 2025.
Impact:The project was successfully implemented through a regional training workshop that brought together veterinarians, researchers, and public health professionals from the participating countries. The initiative focused on strengthening diagnostic and epidemiological capabilities for major neurological diseases, with particular emphasis on rabies, Coenurosis, Listeriosis, and viral encephalitides. By facilitating knowledge exchange, hands-on training, and collaborative discussion, the project laid a foundation for improved surveillance and control strategies grounded in a One Health approach. The anticipated impact includes enhanced early detection and response systems, strengthened veterinary public health infrastructure, and regional harmonization of diagnostic protocols, all of which are critical to mitigating zoonotic disease threats, improving animal and human health outcomes, and advancing sustainable development and food security in the region.
