STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE GROUP OF 77 AND CHINA BY H.E. AMBASSADOR ABDULLA MOHAMMED ALSAIDI, HEAD OF DELEGATION OF THE REPUBLIC OF YEMEN, AT THE OPENING PLENARY OF THE 32ND SESSION OF THE SUBSIDIARY BODY FOR SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL ADVICE (SBSTA 32) OF THE UN FRAMEWORK CONVENTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE (Bonn, Germany, 31 May 2010)

Mr. Chairman,

I have the honour to deliver this statement on behalf of the Group of 77 and China. Allow me at the outset to express our sincere appreciations to the Government of Germany for hosting this meeting, and for the UNFCCC Secretariat for arrangements of all meetings.

I would also like to assure you of our continued support and cooperation to make tangible progress in all agendas under SBSTA.

Mr. Chairman,

The Group of 77 and China considers finanace mechanism linkage to the main issues, as key to the achievement of the ultimate objectives of the Convention. Effective development and transfer of technologies from developed countries to developing countries determines the extent to which developing countries are able to meet their commitments under the Convention. The Group welcomes the three reports prepared by the EGTT as mandated by decisions 2/CP.13, and 3/CP.13,4/CP.13. The Group stands ready to participate constructively in the discussion of these reports with the view to enhancing the development and transfer of technology in a more effective manner now, up to and beyond 2012.

Mr. Chairman,

The Group looks forward to consider the progress report on the implementation of activities of the second phase of Nairobi Work Program and to assess the extent to which these activities and their implementation are contributing to improving the developing countries' understanding of vulnerability and adaptation and enabling them to take informed adaptation action.

Mr. Chairman,

The Group is committed to engage in good faith and open manner in all discussions under the SBSTA and is prepared to make a real progress in all issues under consideration in this session.
